Another member of the New York Knicks’ 2025-26 championship-winning team will not be returning to the Big Apple for the 2026-27 season.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Jeremy Sochan, who the Knicks picked up in-season after he was released by the San Antonio Spurs, has signed a one-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers in free agency.
Sochan, 23, played in 16 games for the team, averaging 2.8 points, 0.8 assists, and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 56.7% from the field and 20% from three-point range.
Throughout four years in the league, he has played in 228 games (149 starts), and the 23-year-old has averaged 9.9 points, 1.1 stocks (steals plus blocks), 2.5 assists, and 5.4 rebounds while converting 47% from the field and knocking down 28.6% of his three-point tries.
He appeared in eight playoff games for the Knicks, though he didn’t have a role in the rotation and was instead used in garbage time, averaging just 3.3 minutes per outing.
Sochan is the second member of the finals-winning squad to sign elsewhere this offseason, joining Mitchell Robinson, who landed a three-year, $47.4 million contract with the Boston Celtics.
For the most part, the Knicks have done a strong job of retaining key pieces from the championship run, including the re-signing of players like Mohamed Diawara, Landry Shamet, Jordan Clarkson, and Jose Alvarado.
Overall, a fresh start makes the most sense for Sochan. It would have been tough for him to find consistent minutes with the Knicks.
Now, he lands with Portland, where he can earn a rotational role.
For the Knicks, most importantly, they have retained the core of their championship team.
