Reggie Miller isn’t the only Indiana basketball star catching New York Knicks fever on Sunday night.
NBC Sports announced on Tuesday that WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark would join its “Sunday Night Basketball” debut at Madison Square Garden, which is set to feature an anticipated interconference clash between the Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. It’s one of Clark’s first forays into major national broadcasting, as she will serve as a “special contributor” during “Basketball Night in America” pregame coverage, which will be staged on site at MSG.
The Indiana Fever shooter will be stationed next to Knicks legend and NBC analyst Carmelo Anthony and his fellow talking heads and Hall-of-Fame players Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, while Maria Taylor hosts. Her fellow Indianapolis hardwood legend Miller will call the game as lead color commentator.
โCaitlin is one of the most captivating players and dynamic scorers in basketball,โ NBC Sports executive producer Sam Flood said in a statement. โWeโre excited to have Caitlin join Hall of Famers Melo, Vince, Tracy, and Reggie in New York for the launch of Sunday Night Basketball.โ
Clark is widely viewed as the face of women’s basketball after a legendary collegiate career at Iowa University, during which she became the all-time leading scorer among both genders in NCAA Division I play (surpassing Pete Maravich). She is set to enter her third WNBA season pending the league’s approval of a collective bargaining agreement with its players.
This won’t be Clark’s first appearance on NBC, as she previously cameoed in a 2024 showing of long-running sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live.” Clark also appeared on ESPN’s “Bird and Taurasi Show,” an alternate broadcast of major NCAA women’s basketball games hosted by Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.
Sunday will be the first of two Knicks games that Clark analyzes this season, as she will reprise her peacock-branded role for their March 29 game against defending champion Oklahoma City. Clark previously played witness to the Knicks’ postseason demise last spring, when the Indiana Pacers ousted them in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Clark’s entry is part of NBC’s hyped Sunday Night Basketball package meant to emulate the renowned football edition that has become the NFL’s premier broadcasting slot. Sunday’s debut will introduce a recorded musical introduction from Lenny Kravitz, not unlike the way Pink, Faith Hill, and incumbent singer Carrie Underwood have heralded kickoffs in the fall.
The Knicks will make three appearances on the maiden voyage, including a March 15 matchup against Golden State, in addition to the aforementioned tilt against the Thunder late that month.
