The New York Knicks are a .500 team without Jalen Brunson. At least that’s what Tom Thibodeau’s squad has put on paper since his captain went down against the Los Angeles Lakers in early March.
Fortunately, the latest Knicks injury update is a positive one. He’s expected to return soon, definitely before the NBA postseason begins, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN’s “NBA Today.”
“It’s my understanding (that) Brunson will be back before the playoffs,” MacMahon said on NBA Today. “He will be able to get a few games under his belt—probably at least four, I would say.”
Brunson, 28, has missed the Knickerbockers’ last 10 games due to a severe ankle sprain he sustained in the March 6 overtime loss (113-109) to the Lakers. Ankle sprains are not foreign to basketball players, but the variety Brunson suffered was no sight to behold.
This is unquestionably important for Knicks fans. Not only is it critical regarding Brunson’s return date, but it’s also reliable, thanks to the nature of the source.
Remember, it was MacMahon who confidently told the world that the Knicks would outbid the entire NBA to sign then-free agent Jalen Brunson—in the Summer of 2022. MacMahon turned out to be spot-on later that summer.
If MacMahon’s reporting turns out to be accurate, Brunson should expected to return to the lineup in about a week and a half. More specifically, keep an eye on the April 8 game at Madison Square Garden against the defending champion Boston Celtics.
That night, a healthy Jalen Brunson against the Celts would provide him exactly four games before the playoffs begin for the New York Knicks.
