Jose Alvarado trade cheers were quieted almost instantly on Thursday when James Edwards III and Fred Katz of The Athletic broke news on an official diagnosis for Miles McBride:

“Knicks guard Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride will undergo surgery Friday on a core muscle injury, more commonly referred to as a sports hernia, and could be sidelined until the playoffs,” the duo reported on X.

McBride, 25, had missed five straight games with what the Knicks called “injury management.” Now, he’ll likely miss the rest of the regular season.

It’s a blow to New York, a hoops squad that just lost its best point-of-attack defender and 3-point shooter all the same.

Deuce McBride is having a career season in year five with the New York Knicks, averaging 12.9 points on 42% shooting from behind the arc.
