Tuesday night may go down as one of the more painful victories in recent New York Knicks memory.

After losing Mohamed Diawara to an ankle injury during the opening period of Tuesday’s game against the Washington Wizards, the Knicks had to watch Josh Hart go to the locker room with a similar ailment near the midway mark of the third quarter.

Hart came up somewhat gingerly as he leaped to block a Bilal Coulibaly jumper. He had a bit of a limp as he went back to the locker room flanked by the New York training staff after the Knicks were able to make a substitution.

On a dominant night for the Knicks, Hart had paired seven assists and rebounds with four points. Hart previously had to miss eight games at the end of 2025 and into 2026 when he endured a right ankle sprain in the Knicks’ Christmas Day victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While the Knicks did not have an immediate update on Hart’s status, they did rule Diawara as out with a left ankle ailment.

Even if Hart is able to return to the New York bench, it’s extraordinarily unlikely that he’ll return to the game: New York leads Washington 102-71 after the third quarter. The larger question is whether Hart will be able to play in the Knicks’ next excursion, as they’ll immediately return to action against Denver on Wednesday night.
