After three quarters of back-and-forth basketball, the Orlando Magic finally broke through in the fourth, pulling away to secure a statement 133-121 win over the New York Knicks
The opening quarter ended in a near deadlock, with the Knicks trailing the Magic 31-29. Jalen Brunson carried New York early, pouring in 14 points and handing out three assists to keep the Knicks within striking distance.
But the momentum shifted when guard Landry Shamet went down with a right shoulder injury just minutes into the game. He immediately sprinted off the floor, holding the same shoulder he dislocated last season and did not return.
With Shamet out and OG Anunoby already sidelined, the Knicks were forced to dig deeper into the bench. Second-round rookie Mohamed Diawara stepped into the rotation in the first quarter, while second-year guard Tyler Kolek logged extended minutes. Kolekโs early priority over Deuce McBride turned heads, marking one of the more unexpected adjustments of the night.
It was later revealed that McBride was dealing with an illness despite being active.
At halftime, New York carried a slim 66-64 lead into the locker room. Jalen Brunson continued to set the tone with 23 first-half points, while Mikal Bridges added 14 on an efficient five-of-six shooting clip, including a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc.
On Orlando’s side of things, Franz Wagner led the way at halftime with 23 points alongside Desmond Bane’s 15.
Orlando pushed ahead, entering the final quarter, taking a 98-93 lead into the fourth. Jordan Clarkson supplied the Knicksโ only real spark off the bench, putting up 15 points through three quarters. Beyond him, New Yorkโs bench mustered just 12 total points, seven of which came from Josh Hart.
The Magic then blew the game wide open before sealing their 133-121 victory. Orlando found scoring from every level, while Franz Wagner capped his night with 37 points. Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane added more support, each finishing with over 20 points.
The Knicks will try to get back in the win column on Monday night when they face their 3-12 cross-town rival, the Brooklyn Nets. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
