Moses Brown continues to make his case for another NBA opportunity.
This time, he could potentially earn a chance with the New York Knicks.
Currently with New York’s G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, Brown was named G League Player of the Month after an impressive March. He averaged 23.6 points and 19.9 rebounds per game while shooting 66.9% from the field.
After going undrafted, the New York City native signed with the Portland Trail Blazers ahead of the 2019 season. Since then, Brown has bounced between the NBA and G League.
Over six NBA seasons, Brown has appeared in 163 games (46 starts), averaging 5.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on 57.4% shooting.
He has played for several organizations, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and Indiana Pacers.
The 25-year-old has played in 26 games for Westchester this season, averaging 18.3 points, 16.7 rebounds, and 61.9% field-goal shooting in 32.2 minutes per game.
Can Brown earn an opportunity with the Knicks?
After dominating the G League this season and earning Player of the Month honors for March, the question has arisen: Does Brown deserve a shot in the NBA with the Knicks?
The answer is yes.
Brown, who has several years of NBA experience, has been a force in the paint for Westchester. The Knicks, struggling with rebounding all season, rank 24th in the league with an average of 43 rebounds per game.
Brown, by contrast, is averaging 16.7 rebounds per game for Westchester, and his presence would certainly boost the Knicks’ rebounding numbers.
In addition to rebounding struggles, the Knicks are dealing with injuries at the center position. Karl-Anthony Towns missed Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to left knee soreness, while Ariel Hukporti remains out indefinitely.
Brown could provide much-needed depth at the position, especially with just seven games remaining in the regular season.
Standing at 7-foot-2, Brown is currently on an Exhibit 10 contract with the Knicks. For him to return to the NBA, the organization would need to waive him and sign him to a new deal, which could be a two-way, 10-day, or standard NBA contract, before the regular season concludes.
With seven games left in the regular season, Brown has earned the opportunity to prove himself as a valuable depth piece for the Knicks at the NBA level.
