A former Sacramento Kings big man will look to form a nightly royal summit with the king of New York.
Per Ian Begley of SNY, the New York Knicks are set to sign veteran center Drew Eubanks to a training camp deal with the intention of having him compete for a roster spot. It was part of a busy Tuesday evening for the Knicks, who also added John Konchar on a standard one-year deal.
Like Konchar, Eubanks has carved out a career as a well-traveled reserve in the Association after entering the Association as an undrafted free agent. The Oregon State alum came into the league in 2018 and spent three-plus seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.
Eubanks has also played for Portland, Phoenix, Utah, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, averaging 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 426 appearances to date. Last season’s long tour with the Kings was cut short by a thumb issue, ending his year after 42 appearances (11 starts).
Coming to New York will reunite Eubanks with Josh Hart, as they both played in Portland in 2022-23 before the latter was traded to the Knicks.
Though the 29-year-old Eubanks is working on a camp deal, he has a golden opportunity to make the opening night roster.
There has been a glaring hole behind Karl-Anthony Towns on the Knicks’ interior depth chart since Mitchell Robinson and Ariel Hukporti signed with Boston and Philadelphia, respectively. New York previously re-stocked in the area with the addition of Andre Drummond.
