Former San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan plans to sign with the New York Knicks after clearing waivers, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Sochan, 22, was drafted by San Antonio with the ninth pick in the 2022 NBA draft after playing collegiately at Baylor University. He earned All-Rookie honors in his first season in the NBA.
The now-fourth-year pro has averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists over 212 in his career, but has seen a dip in production across the board as his role on the Spurs took a back seat this season. His year-to-date averages are 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks had shown interest in acquiring Sochan ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline in a potential deal involving Guerschon Yabusele.
Instead, Yabusele was sent out in a deal with the Chicago Bulls to acquire Dalen Terry, who was then flipped to New Orleans for Jose Alvarado.
By signing Sochan to a free-agent deal โ after he cleared waivers โ the Knicks bypass having to give up any of their assets for a player they view as valuable, while also getting him on a cheaper deal than he had with his previous club.
Sochan was in the final year of his 4-year, $23 million rookie-scale contract with San Antonio, who were paying him just over $7 million for the 2025-26 season. He’ll be making the league minimum in New York, which hovers around $2.6 million for a player with his service time.
The New York Knicks do not need to make any additional moves to acquire Jeremy Sochan, who will fill out their 15-man roster.
