The New York Knicks’ Wednesday night victory over the Dallas Mavericks was sweet in multiple ways.
All sides of the Josh Hart experience were on display during one sequence in the third quarter at American Airlines Center: as Hart, known for his hustle plays, went diving for a loose ball on a Knicks defensive possession, he ended up in the courtside seating, making contact with an official as he fell.
Once it became clear that everyone was none the worse for wear, Hart, equally renowned for his easygoing nature on and off the floor, asked one fan for an offering from his container of Peanut M&M’s. The amused spectator obliged before Hart ran off to finish the possession, one that ended with Landry Shamet’s interception of a PJ Washington pass.
One would have to assume that publicly partaking in Peanut M&M’s would perhaps violate Hart’s contract as the “Chief Candy Officer” for Mike and Ike. He took to X in the immediate aftermath of New York’s 113-111 win to immediately re-establish his loyalty to the fruity pills over the circular, candy-coated chocolate.
“Mike and Ike’s > > > M&Ms,” Hart heralded, no doubt keeping his board of directors pleased. Gameday sweets have long been a part of Hart’s career, as he has routinely engaged in sizable boxes of Mike and Ikes leading up to tip-off in a tradition that dates at least back to his time as a Villanova Wildcat.
Hart’s snack break was a moment of levity during an otherwise tense night for the Knicks (9-5), whose first road win of the season did not come easy, as the severely shorthanded Mavericks gave them all they could handle before consecutive clutch threes from Landry Shamet sealed the deal in the final minute.
Hart did his part in relief, scoring 16 points while adding 10 rebounds in his third double-double of the season. The Knicks improved to 3-0 when Hart has recorded a double-double this year and 39-20 since he came to Manhattan at the 2023 trade deadline.
Hart’s next chance to add to his collection lands on Saturday when the Knicks continue their road trip against the Orlando Magic (5 p.m. ET, MSG).
