The only thing to accomplish after losing two straight games is obvious: win a basketball game.

After two straight road lossesโ€”back-to-back in Oklahoma City and Chicagoโ€”the New York Knicks welcome the Orlando Magic in for a Monday night game at Madison Square Garden.

Fortunately, the Knicks have a better chance to right the ship due to the opponent’s current circumstances. Although Orlando is still fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 21-16 record, its standing is impressive yet shaky once considering the injury report.

Incredibly, despite having five players on the active injury report, another lead dog went down via injury this past Friday. In the second quarter of Orlando’s 106-97 win over the Toronto Raptors three nights ago, Suggs took the infamous wheelchair ride off the court.

Injury report

Although the long-term prognosis looks positive, Suggs’s non-contact back injury placed him on an already crowded Magic injury report:

  • Paolo Banchero (Out: return to competition reconditioning)
  • Gary Harris (Out: left hamstring)
  • Mac McClung (Out: G League)
  • Jalen Suggs (Out: back)
  • Franz Wagner (Out: right oblique)
  • Moritz Wagner (Out: left knee)

The job Jamahl Mosley has done this year is remarkable, but the Magic have lost four of their last six games.

For the Knicks, the injury report remains stagnant apart from one inclusion:

  • Jalen Brunson (Probable: right calf)
  • Karl-Anthony Towns (Questionable: right knee)
  • Miles McBride (Questionable: left hamstring)
  • Kevin McCullar Jr. (Out: G League)
  • Mitchell Robinson (Out: left ankle)

Karl-Anthony Towns is officially listed as questionable for Monday night’s game with the right knee injury sustained late in the Knicks’ 139-126 loss to the Bulls Saturday night. The latest is that Towns will warm up before the game to see if he should give it a go.

After sitting for a game, Jalen Brunson returned to take on Oklahoma City, and he’s expected to suit up against the Magic. Deuce McBride remains the other question mark, as he’s missed the last three games with a left hamstring injury.

Odds

As expected, the home team is favored to win this one.

  • Knicks spread: -11.5 (-110)
  • Magic spread: +11.5 (-110)
  • Knicks moneyline: -637
  • Magic moneyline: +465
  • Knicks-Magic over-under: 208.5 (O: -110, U: -110)

TV, how to watch

The game will tip off from Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2024. It will be televised on the local networks: MSG Networks for local Knicks fans and Bally Sports Florida for local Magic fans.

Streaming networks that could be used to watch include (but are not limited to) Fubo.TV, YouTube TV, and NBA League Pass.
